Sculptra Aesthetic
Overview
A natural component of skin and soft tissue, collagen is an essential component of youthful, smooth appearing skin. With age, we lose the collagen and volume in our faces, leading to deepened facial lines, folds, and creases. Sculptra® Aesthetic is a unique anti-aging treatment aimed at restoring collagen, subtly, over time.
Sculptra® is made from poly-L-lactic acid, a biocompatible compound used in medicine for decades. Sculptra® works in the deep layers of your skin to replace lost collagen. The result is a solid foundation of volume replenishment that fills in your wrinkles and folds over time. The results are a subtle, gradual, youthful appearance. Most patients need three treatment sessions, spaced about 3 weeks apart, and derive the benefits of Sculptra® Aesthetic for up to 2 years.
Am I a good candidate for Sculptra Aesthetic?
You may be an excellent candidate for Sculptra® if you wish to correct shallow to deep wrinkles, gradually over time. Sculptra® has been used to improve the appearance of:
- nasolabial folds (lines from nose to the corners of the mouth)
- marionette folds (lines below the corners of the mouth)
- cheeks
- temples
What should I expect during Sculptra® Aesthetic treatment?
Dr. Chung will tailor your treatment sessions to best suit your needs and desired outcomes. Sculptra® Aesthetic is typically administered in a series of at least 3 treatment sessions, and it is important to undergo all treatment sessions to obtain the maximum effect from the gradual process of collagen replacement.
Your skin will be cleansed and the Sculptra® is injected under the skin. Topical anesthetic may be applied, and local anesthetic is added to the Sculptra® to minimize discomfort. After the treatment, you will need to massage the treated area for 5 minutes 5 times a day for 5 days for optimal results.
What happens after Sculptra Aesthetic treatment?
After Sculptra® Aesthetic treatment, you may experience slight swelling, which typically resolves in a few days. Bruising is always a risk with any injection, but makeup may be applied and most bruises resolve within a week. To decrease the risk of bruising, blood thinners such as aspirin and ibuprofen should be avoided for a week prior to your treatment. You will see a gradual change over time with softening of your skin folds and lines. Because the results improve over time, your friends and co-workers may not even know the reason behind your refreshed, youthful appearance.
